Choosing Your Backsplash Tile

There are so many decisions to make when it comes to remodeling a kitchen. What color should you paint the walls? Do you want custom or prefab cabinets? Kitchen table or island? What material is best for countertops? And the list goes on! You could spend endless hours on end searching Pinterest, trying to mix and match photos to create your dream kitchen. As you near the end of your remodel, there’s probably a few projects you’ve put off. One that is most important to tying everything together is designing your backsplash. From choosing your material to color and pattern, all the way to installation…We’re here to help!

Color:

Choosing a color is typically the best place to start. You’ll have to decide if you want to make your backsplash colorful or keep it neutral. It’s important to consider the materials and colors used throughout the rest of the space. If you’ve painted the walls a bold color, it may be best to choose a basic tone to not clash. However, if the walls are a neutral color, the backsplash is a good place to add a pop of color to personalize the room!

Material:

The material you select is just as critical as the color. We offer a variety of options: Ceramic, mosaic, marble, glass, natural stone, slate, porcelain, metal and tumbled stone. You’ll want to choose a material that fits in with the overall design style of the room. For example, if your kitchen is clean and contemporary a ceramic tile may complement this style best.

Height:

The next factor to consider is how far up you want your backsplash to reach, as it has to end somewhere. The beginning of the cabinets or first shelf, if you have an open design is a common place to stop. However, if you want to highlight your backsplash as a main focal point in the room, you can even extend it to the top of the ceiling in areas with no cabinets.

Countertops:

You’ll also want to take into consideration that your backsplash will meet your countertops. Being in such close proximity to one another, choosing a material and color that complement the tones of the countertop will make it a seamless transition for the eye.

Pattern and Shape:

With endless options for design, you’ll have to decide if you want to keep your kitchen looking classic and traditional, or add a playful touch with a creative pattern. Your tiles don’t have to be rectangles lined up side by side- They can be rounded, place diagonally, etc. When done right, a fancy pattern can be tasteful and attention-grabbing.
